Africa’s first black female Boeing 787 Dreamliner certified Captain, Irene Koki Mutungi, jetted into the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Thursday afternoon to deliver Kenya Airways’ fourth Dreamliner.
In a feat that will go down history as a first in Africa’s aviation industry, the Kenya Airways crew that flew in the new aircraft also included a female Flight Purser, Load Master and Cabin Crew.
The wide-bodied plane’s delivery from the manufacturer’s- Boeing Corporation- Assembly Site in Charleston, South Carolina, in the United States to Kenya Airways’ Nairobi hub, now pushes KQ’s fleet count to 37 planes in active operation.
Globally, Captain Koki is highly regarded as the first black female pilot certified to captain the state- of-the-art aircraft.
As part of its fleet renewal strategy, Kenya Airways, is in the process of taking delivery of five more Dreamliner airplanes from Boeing Corporation, to complete an order for nine such aircrafts.
The plane landed at exactly 12:45pm to a round of applause and ceremonial water cannon shower by the Kenya Airports Authority Fire Brigade team.
On hand to receive Captain Mutungi and her all ladies crew was Kenya Airways Finance Director Alex Mbugua who acknowledged the historical milestone in the delivery of the aircraft.
“This is a historical moment for Kenya Airways as we have proved to the world and our aviation peers of our deliberate commitment to human resource development by providing an equal opportunity to our sisters,” Mbugua said. “I look forward to a day in the near future when this aircraft will be managed by a 100% Ladies crew now that we have two first officers already undergoing certification training,” he added.
By receiving the fourth Dreamliner and with two more to go by October this year, Kenya Airways is maintaining its corporate focus on a strategic effort to renew its aircraft fleet to guarantee cost efficient service delivery.

Amos Kimunya, has graduated with a Global Executive MBA from USIU. The former Finance Minister was among the top graduates who received their MBA degrees during the 36thUSIU Graduation ceremony held last Saturday.
Amos also topped his class with a GPA of 4.0, beating fellow graduates from Germany, Australia, Mexico and over twenty seven other nations.Other dignitaries who graduated alongside him include Kisumu West MP, Shakeel Ahmed, and Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission vice chairperson Irene Keino.
The university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Freida Brown and Education Cabinet Secretary, Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi,expressed optimism that the university’s programmes will play key role in addressing Africa’s capacity in the face of growing demand for international oriented studies.

The year of 2014 has been quite
emotional as we have lost so many
icons in our music ministry. Early this
week another gospel singer by the
name Elijah Murugami “Ngatho-Ici”
passed away on Wednesday 27th
August after a bad road accident on
Tuesday Night which led to the end
0f his journey as a minister of the
gospel.
Elijah Murugami was known for his
song Ngatho- ICI which made him
grace so many platforms in Kenya.
He was a good man to hang out with
as he had so much love to share
through his gospel music.
A close friend to him by the name
Elijah Prince whom they did a song
with called Ngatho-ICI remix back
then in the year 2012 shared of how
he will miss his friend by sharing the
following statement :
“I have just lost a best friend in my
life ELIJAH MURUGAMI. RIP.. am just
out of words. will never forget the
NGATHO-ICI remix we did together. i
just cant believe your gone.”
With a captivating voice that is rich
and soulful, featuring a brilliant,
glorious high range and smooth
texture, Elijahs spiritual lyrics have
dominated FM radio stations for
years. He is well known for his
interpretation of the Bible with songs.
Last year, local gospel ministers paid
homage to gospel great Elijah during
the launch of his new VCD, in
Nairobi. hosting fellow artists, at St
Andrews Church. The celebrations
had attracted gospel music’s premier
songwriters, recording artists, music
industry executives and legends.
